Autumn Leaves
“so i tried to find an autumn leaves in b minor but i couldnt so i just found a famous musician playing an instrumental autumn leaves” - Kiera
A celebration of Women’s History Month (especially for a musician, and particularly for pianists) is not complete without remembering “The First Lady of Jazz”, Mary Lou Williams. This song is a famous tune by the Duke Ellington Orchestra. Mary Lou Williams arranged the music. And, for big band music, arranging is everything! Enjoy!
Teacher. “And what does ƒƒ mean?”
Pupil (after mature deliberation). “Fump-Fump.”

“Here’s Piano Concert being played by David Fung and a symphony! Hope you like it!” - by Maeve
This is excellent, Maeve!
Students:
What do you all think? Like it? Anyone else who played this piece - can YOU find a good video or recording to upload for us all to hear?
Start piano study off this year by joining the 100 Days Club!! Students will be invited to track their practice efforts by trying to practice 100 days IN A ROW!!
If you can do it, then you will receive a prize. If we can get a club going, then we’ll go for 200 days and have a party for all who completes 200 days of practice in a row!
The count starts from the day of your first lesson this Fall.
RULES:
5 minutes minimum of practice, but it has to be real practicing, not doodling or playing a song you’ve already played before.
Honor system - please have mom or dad or older sibling initial your calendar, but if no one is around to verify, please be honest!!
IF YOU MISS A DAY:
no “making up” a missed, day, but start your count over! EVERYONE will get a prize when they complete their 100 days, even if you don’t get 100 days in a row until the end of the school year! Just put 100 days together!!
I’ll be keeping track as students get to 25 days, 50 days, and 75 days, so we can cheer each other on, and help EVERYONE reach 100 days in a row before the end of 2011!!
